COVID-19 Fall Sunday Service Update
Dear Community Presbyterian Church,
It has been a joy to worship outdoors together this summer and I am encouraged by knowing so many of you are continuing to participate in worship from home as well. We are aware that these ideal summer mornings on the field won’t last forever, so what will happen when the weather changes?
At the August Session meeting, we decided that when Fall weather makes it no longer feasible to worship outdoors, we will resume indoors in-person worship in the sanctuary, following all county and state health mandates and recommendations. We will continue one 10:00 am service with a high-quality livestream for at-home worship. We do not have a set date for bringing worship indoors. Weather will dictate the move and we will communicate as far in advance as we are able.
What to know about 10:00 am in-person indoor worship plans:
We will announce the transition date as early as we are able.(Starting Nov 1st)
We need all attendees to pre-register online so we can plan for attendance numbers.
Livestream will be continued. We worship together, in-person or at home.
As we move indoors, we strongly recommend that all who consider themselves a vulnerable population due to age or underlying condition, please worship from home.
All attendees will be required to wear face coverings (masks). Please cover your nose and mouth and keep it on for the entire time in the building.
For safety reasons, the congregation will be asked to not sing but to worship quietly.
Physical distancing will be practiced. Please follow floor markings for traffic flow in and out. Please sit where designated by ushers in alternating pews.
There will be no nursery or Sunday School, but we encourage families to worship together.
We will need returning and new volunteers to make the hospitality and technology needs of worship a success.
The Worship Committee, Session, and staff will assess these plans and adapt accordingly as we move through the coming months.
As the leaders of this church, it is our priority to see the congregation continue its mission of growing together in Christ and loving one another. All our decisions are made with this in mind. In this time of the COVID-19 Pandemic, we are committed to worshiping and gathering in such a way that minimizes the risk of infection for our own membership as well as protecting those who are vulnerable in the broader community of Central Oregon. As Elders, we have spent hours staying up to date on Oregon health regulations and recommendations. We consider these a baseline for any in-person activities.
In all we do, we seek to maintain the unity of the church even though we are not all in one place on a weekly basis.
As your pastor, I also encourage each of you as members, to reflect on how God is leading you forward in your commitment to the church. Please continue to make Sunday morning worship a priority, whether in-person or at home. Stay connected to each other through phone calls and backyard visits. Pray regularly for each other and for the church. Be creative with us in how you can grow as a disciple and join in the mission of the church to the world. We are in this together!
Yours in Christ,
Rev. Andrew Hoeksema
